I was going to Chicago at the end of May to visit my family. I asked around to see what club nights and shows might be happening. I had a long list of possibilities, but no one bothered to mention Millipede was playing until Holger (Raubbau label) in Germany told me about it. Quite a roundabout way to be informed.

Admittedly, I only knew the song off the Emerging Organisms Vol. 3 and I really like it. That and being on Hymen Records were good enough reasons to check it out. He was the opening act and I arrived just as the set began.

The songs were a blend of dark ambient and IDM, one of my favorite genre combinations. The soundscapes were not too depressing. They added a rich texture to the electronic sounds and beats, propelling the listener along on the journey. Certain songs reminded me of Stendeck and Subheim. This is a great compliment from me as each of their debut albums were my top album pick of the year in 2005 and 2008 respectively.

I spent the next set talking to Don from Millipede. When we looked up, we were rather horrified by the bad pseudo-BDSM happening to equally bad industrial music. I can't even tell your their name and I'm not looking it up. I had somewhere else to be before Oneiroid Psychosis played.

I know Millipede has some shows later this year in the Pacific Northwest. I'll see about getting him out to the East Coast too. If he plays in a city near you, go!
